One of the oldest and most esteemed universities in India is the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, or MSU. A 1949 institution, MSU holds UGC recognition and a ‘A+’ accreditation from the NAAC. According to the NIRF Rankings 2023, the university is also placed 101st overall. The government of the old State of Baroda and its advisors on education had taken an interest in the notion of establishing a university at Baroda.Dr. Jackson originally envisioned the idea in 1908 when, in his capacity as principal of Baroda College, he promoted the creation of a Science Institute at Baroda on a more superior and independent foundation.

The Baroda College, founded by Baroda State in 1881, is where the university got its start. Robert Fellowes Chisholm created the main structure, which houses the Faculty of Arts, in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style.

Pratap Singh Gaekwad of Baroda founded The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1949 and settled the Sir Sajajirao Diamond Jubilee and Memorial Trust which carters to the educational needs and other needs of the people.

Based on GUJCET test results, MSU Baroda grants admission to UG courses in pharmacy and engineering. In addition, JEE Main results are accepted for engineering programs. The results of national/state level exams such as CMAT, CAT, GATE, GPAT, NEET PG, etc. are taken into consideration for admission to postgraduate degrees like MBA, MTech, MPharm, and MS. A number of UG, Diploma, PG, and PG Diploma programs also require entrance exams, personal interviews, counseling sessions, or merit from a prior qualifying exam in order to be admitted.
