National Law University (NLU), Delhi was established in 2008 by Act No. 1 of 2008 of NCT Delhi in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. The initiative was led by the High Court of Delhi and spearheaded by Ranbir Singh, the founder-director and vice-chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, who became NLU Delhi’s first vice-chancellor. The university was inaugurated by the then President of India, Pratibha Patil. Initially, the college operated in temporary buildings but by 2010, it had completed its construction and became fully functional.
