About Bangalore NLSIU 2024-25:

The National Law School was established after two decades of concerted efforts by prominent lawyers, including former Chief Justice Mohammad Hidayatullah, Ram Jethmalani, and Upendra Baxi. These legal luminaries petitioned the Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India, advocating for a university modeled after Harvard Law School. Their persistent endeavors led to a historic agreement between the Bar Council of India Trust and the Government of Karnataka to found the first National Law University in Bangalore. This landmark institution, named the National Law University of India, was officially established in 1986. The founding was spearheaded by N. R. Madhava Menon, who served as the university’s first Vice-Chancellor. His visionary leadership played a pivotal role in shaping the institution, which has since become a premier center for legal education in India.
