BGSBU was founded in 2002 by an Act of Jammu & Kashmir. The University is named after Saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah. The campus is situated in Rajouri at foothills of Great Himalayas. The university provides courses under UG, PG & phd courses. In this university research can be done in the field of management, environment, biodiversity, bio technology, computer science, information technology & applied science. Admission can be done through both entrance & national level exams with the eligibility criteria of 10+2 with a 45% score in their last qualifying exam. They take CUET as an entrance exam.
The university has various colleges under them such as School of engineering & technology, School of management studies, School of Mathematical & computer science, School of Education, School of biosciences & bio technology, School of Social Sciences, School of Nursing & Biomedical Sciences, School of Islamic studies & languages.
The university also has their own placement cell which works for the betterment of their students as they focus on their skills, knowledge & also they conduct seminars, workshops, Group discussion, Mock Interview, Aptitude test, Resume skills etc.also they have collaboration with companies which comes for recruitment such as HCL, AIRCEL, PEPSI, AXIS BANK and many more.
The university provides different facilities to their students such as library, hostels, sports complex, cafeteria, health centre, transport facilities.

The University celebrated many functions such as cricket, chess, kabaddi, khokho, annual function, university year celebration, Engineers day fest, The campus also organizes cultural events such as Riyasate Virasat which conducts fabulous mega shows in which 7 state universities can participate. The campus also organized youth festivals where every student can take part.

Admission can be done through both entrance & national level exams with the eligibility criteria of 10+2 with a 45% score in their last qualifying exam. They take CUET as an entrance exam.
- For students who need to take admission in bachelor degree they need to complete 10+2 study in associate course & they also have 50% aggregate in their exam.
- PG students need to complete their graduation degree.
- Students who need to take admission in MBA degree must clear the entrance exam like CAT, CMAT, MAT.
- For M.phil & Phd students need to have at least 55% and also they conduct written test, presentation & interview for providing courses to their students.
